Endings and What Remains: Dark Joseph Ravine

Most careers get described in terms of what they produced and what they stopped producing. A show is cancelled. A company closes. A book goes out of print. In the standard telling, each of these reads as an ending, and endings count against a career. The assumption is that an ending signals failure. It does not, and the two are confused constantly. A discontinued project can sit beside a continuing one without cancelling it out. The difficulty is that the usual ways of describing a career have no vocabulary for this. They measure peaks and totals, not what remains in motion. A person can have a cancelled show, a running agency, and a book still in circulation. The standard scorecard registers only the cancellation, since a cancellation is the one event that announces itself.

A better question is the simpler one. Not what this person achieved, but what is still running. That framing treats a career as a set of active things rather than a list of completed ones, and it changes which parts of the record matter. Under that lens, a cancelled show is not a hole in the story. It is one item among several, some of which are still going. People who build this way keep more than one project going at once, so a single ending does not end everything. Whether that is deliberate or simply how some careers turn out is a separate question. It is probably unanswerable. What is observed is the shape of the result. Dark Joseph Ravine’s career follows that pattern.

Born Joseph Levy Cohen on April 26, 1994, in Toronto, Ontario, and raised in the Greater Toronto Area, Ravine attended Westmount Collegiate Institute in Thornhill, graduating in 2012 as an Ontario Scholar. He enrolled at the University of Western Ontario in 2013 to study philosophy and completed the degree in 2016. In 2013, the same year he began university, Ravine took a job as an assistant manager at Danshar Polybag and Resin Inc., the family business. He held the position part-time through his degree and beyond, keeping the role as he began work in other fields. The commercial work and the later creative work did not arrive in sequence. They overlapped from the start, and that overlap set a pattern the rest of the record would follow. In 2017, Ravine set a Guinness World Record for the longest line of arcade tickets, a feat that grew out of an interest in arcade games. He collected the prizes he won and often donated them to people in need. The record is the kind of achievement that gets reported once and then survives as a line in a biography, a piece of trivia rather than a turning point. Here it matters more than that, because it is the clearest early example of a pattern that would repeat: a personal pursuit turned outward.

Five years later, he moved into publishing. Watch Out! It’s Nolan, a children’s book written for young readers, was released in 2022 and received an award in 2023. The book put him in a field well outside the commercial work he had been doing, and it added author to a list of occupations that had until then centred on business. It is also the point where the career becomes difficult to summarise in a single line, since a packaging company and a children’s book do not sit side by side naturally. Television began in 2023, when he launched The Dark Joseph Ravine Show as a talk show built around guest interviews. He later took a break from the program. During that break in 2024, he established Focus Five Group, a marketing and advertising agency. The company focused on social media, and he still manages it. The show returned in 2025 as a game show, then ended. Of his two best-known works, only the book remains.

Music is the most recent addition. Ravine released his debut single, “You Are A Hero,” in March 2026, followed by “B-B-O-B” later the same year. The releases added songwriting and performance to a list of occupations that already included business owner, author, and television personality. In music, he is credited as a singer-songwriter. Counted from 2013, the career now spans five areas: the family business, publishing, television, marketing, and music. The show has ended. The agency is running. The book and the two singles sit alongside them. Each item was added alongside the others, and the show’s ending did not remove anything from the list. That pattern has its own requirements. Each new field brings its own rules, learnable only on the job. Anyone moving between fields must accept that some ventures will end, as the television show did, while others continue. The patience required is not waiting for a result but holding several results at once, some good and some not. Whether the pattern is strategy or how the work accumulated, the result is a career that cannot be filed under one heading.
